Fishing Orange Beach

Orange Beach Fishing Report, December 2009Gulf shores bull redfish fishing in winter

Just as suspected, the Speckled Trout and Redfish bite is on fire here on the Alabama Gulf Coast.  From Orange Beach, Gulf Shores to Ft. Morgan and Mobile Bay, the fishing is absolutely the best and some people are cashing in on the fun.

The Speckled Trout are still abundant in and around the Perdido Pass and Mobile Bay estuaries.  The larger trout are moving up into the rivers that feed our bays.  Fish River, Magnolia River and Bon Secour are all producing larger Specks this month.  We are fishing light tackle and using mostly artificial baits to catch them.   The best time to catch them is when the tide is moving in or out.  We have not had a lot of luck catching them during slack tide.

The near shore Bull Redfish bite has been good on days when we are having calm seas and cold temperatures.  Combine these two ingredients with a gentle northwest or north wind, and you get explosive action right off the shores of Orange Beach and Gulf Shores.

Amazing Scenery, Great weather

One thing for sure, there is some amazing scenery and great inshore fishing that you should be enjoying.  We are usually on the water around 6 to 6:30 am.  We see so much wildlife and marine birds up in the rivers this time of the year.  We saw a Racoon right near the boat looking for a meal for a while the other day.  The beauty of seeing the steam rise off the water is breathtaking.  The morning temperatures are in the low to mid 40's and we are topping out in the high mid to high 60's during most of these days.  We have had some pretty good low pressure systems that had led to a couple of days that have not been favorable to fish.
