Shipps Harbour Grill Seafood Restaurant Review for Orange Beach - Fabulous, Just Fabulous.

October 15, 2012 - Orange Beach, Alabama -  I have eaten at just about every restaurant in Orange Beach, Alabama over the years.  Most of them have been good, but I have now found my favorite seafood restaurant in Orange Beach.  The reason this seafood restaurant stands out is because of the excellent food quality, presentation, moderate price, spectacular views and friendly breathtaking atmosphere.  Owners Chef Matt Shipp and his wife Regina are at the seafood restaurant at all times and do everything they can to ensure you and your family have a great meal on the Alabama Gulf Coast.  They are hands on with everything.  Don't let the white linen table cloths fool you.  The place settings are upscale but you are welcome to come dressed casual.  The Shipp's Harbour Grill is a place to bring the kids as well as someone special for a special event.   Whether it's romance or tasting some of the best seafood Orange Beach has to offer, Shipps is the place to try.

Shipp's Harbour Grill is located at 27842 Canal Road in Orange Beach.  It is located in the Sportsman Marina Compound.  There is plenty of parking and the view is spectacular.  You can dine comfortably inside by the bar or along the windows overlooking the Sportsman Marina's  dozens of yachts and boats.  For those of you who like dining outdoors, the porch and patio area offers the smell of the sweet marsh grass and the essence of salt water.

Sushi, Appetizers and Beginnings

The seafood menu is filled with mouthwatering sushi, appetizers, salads and entrees to fit any budget or tastebud.  Appetizers like Crab Rangoon, Pepper Fried Shrimp, West Indies Salad, Jumbo Crab Cake, Gouda and Jalapeno Hush Puppies are just some of the wonderful "Beginnings."  If you really want to spice it up a bit, you need to try the signature Tuna Margarita or the New Style Sashimi.  Shipp's Grill also has Oysters prepared Creole Style, Oysters Rockefeller, Nude (Raw) and Surfin.  No matter what you try, all of these selections will meet or exceed what you expected.

Soups, Salads and Sandwiches

The Shipps Harbour Grill has a full line of wonderful soups, salads and island fare (sandwiches) to choose from.  They offer a unique Fried Oyster Salad as well as the Tangerine Tuna Salad.  For those of you who like to keep it on the traditional side, you can always choose a House "Bibb" Salad, Steakhouse Salad or a Mixed Green Salad.  There is always a soup of the day, Shrimp Etouffee, Seafood Gumbo, Oyster Po-Boy, Shrimp Po-Boy and the delicious Fried Grouper Sandwich.  There is also a good selection of pasta and crab meat recipes for those who like food that is rich with flavor.

Fried, Grilled, Saute'ed or Blackened Entrees

Most people that come to the beach love to eat Fried Shrimp, Fried Oysters and Fried Crab Claws.  The batter that Matt uses is light, crunchy and makes allows you to taste the fare instead of the breading.  He has a full line of grilled and blackened seafood dishes to compliment all of the other excellent choices.  There is the wonderful Saute'ed Grouper, Grouper Ponchartrain, Coconut Caribbean Mahi Mahi, Black Sesame Tuna, Grilled Tuna and some delicious Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes.

Any of these choices will leave you very pleased.  All entrees are moderately priced and have superiour quality and flavor.

Steaks for the Land Lovers

All of Ship's Grills Steaks are USDA Prime Beef.   The are all served with Gouda Mashed Potatoes and a Seasonal Vegetable.  Each steak comes with a choice of sauces.  Special Sauces are:  Garlic Butter, Bourbon Mushroom Demiglace or a homemade Worcestershire.

The Petite Filet (6 oz) and Regular Filet (8 oz) are my favorite. The size I order depends on how many appetizers we consumed.  It is also hard to beat the 16 oz Ribeye or the NY Strip.  Each cut of beef is tender, juicy and has just the right amount of marbling.  For those of you who like to mix it up a bit, I would suggest the Butter Boy Filet (8 oz filet, crab cake with garlic butter and bourbon mushroom sauce), Stilton Stuffed Filet (8 oz prime filet, stilton blue cheese, jumbo lump crab meat with bacon butter) or the Filet with Lump Crab Meat with Bearnaise Sauce.

The Dessert Tray

I hope each one of you saves a little room for some of the best desserts on the Alabama Gulf Coast.  Each one of these homemade delicasies is a sure fire way to end a wonderful evening of casual dining on the Alabama Gulf Coast.

The desserts are:  Chocolate Torte with a Cherry Glace (Homeade flourless chocolate cake with cherry red wine glace with a pecan graham cracker crust).  The Dee's Homeade Carrot Cake is to die for.  The rest of the dessert menu is made up of Creme Brulee, Key Lime Pie, Drunk Brownie, Amaretto Cheesecake and a New Orleans Favorite, Bananas Foster.

Shipp's Harbour Grill Summary

The Shipp's Harbour Grill at the Sportsman Marina in Orange Beach is a must see and must do for everyone.  The attention to detail by Chef Matt Shipp is second to none.  While other local seafood restaurants hire cooks, Chef Matt refuses to succomb.  Matt has his finger on the pulse of the community and to the taste of the tourist.  The menu is easy to read and the food quality is superb.  We did not have to wait very long.  There is ample seating and the pictures on the walls of all of the marine creatures is intriguing.  There is always something to look at and learn about at the Shipp's Grill.  I hope you enjoy one of the best seafood meals soon.
