Sea Turtles
Sea Turtles are the largest marine Reptile that share the Gulf of Mexio with us. While charter fishing, we see these magnificent Turtles swimming along and resting on the surface of the water. They are pretty shy and often submerge when approached or threatend by a boat. You have to have your camera ready to shoot when we yell "Turtle."
There are three primary marine Turtles that inhabit or share the Gulf of Mexico waters while deep sea fishing in Orange Beach, Alabama. They are the Loggerhead Sea Turtle, Olive Ridley Sea Turtle and the common Green Sea Turtle.
The Green Sea Turtles are the ones you see on most posters and pictures. We think they are the most beautiful turtle that swims. They are often pictured swimming with a coral reef in the back ground. They look like the Turtles in the Disney Movie, "Finding Nemo." These Sea Turtles have a pretty shell and are cool to look at. These Turtles love to sunbathe and are the only Turtle that can't pull their heads back into their shells.
The Loggerhead Sea Turtle have a big ole noggin (head). I guess that is why they call them Loggerheads. These Turtles are also beautiful to see and they get big. I have seen them upwards of 6 feet long and 800 pounds estimated. They are also a common Sea Turtle in Orange Beach's offshore waters. They are herbivores and live for over 85 years. These Loggerheads are considered threatened by scientists.
The Leatherback Sea Turtle is another pre-historic looking marine reptile. These are the largest of all sea turtles and grow up to over 7 feet in length and weigh close to 2000 pounds. They have a leather looking back that has ridges that run from front to rear. Leatherback Sea Turtles can dive to over 4,200 feet deep and hold their breath for over 85 minutes we have heard. These Leatherbacks are carnivores and can live up to 45 years.
Be sure to come with us on a deep sea fishing trip and hopefully see some Sea Turtles. Make sure you have a camera with a zoom lense so you can get a close up of these beautiful marine reptiles. Visit our online reservations section to book your fishing charter today and maybe see some Sea Turtles.
